Bamford has a bright future

Cape Town - Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew believes that on-loan signing Patrick Bamford is a bright young talent but is not yet the complete package.

Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford completed a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

The rising talent has been warned that much hard work lies ahead.

The 21-year-old won the second-tier Championship Player of the Year award for scoring 17 goals for Middlesbrough last season before the north-east side lost the play-off final to Norwich - and he will now look to continue that form in the Premier League.

"For him it's another step in what could be a great career for him," Pardew told Sport24.

"The Premier League is another level and he is going to need to learn very quickly."

"It's a great opportunity for him. He is a great talent".

Pardew revealed that Bamford has not yet played a game in Palace's pre-season which the manager described as "a little bit of a concern".

"He's not quite ready, he's not quite where he should be" added Pardew.

The manager believes because of this Bamford is starting on the back foot at his new club but Pardew said "I don't envisage it will take him long to get ready".

Pardew feels that if Bamford got 10 goals and 20 games that would be outstanding which the manager feels that would be a realistic target for the 21-year-old striker.
