Spokesperson for the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Sanjay Sharma today said withdrawing cases was not in the jurisdiction of the Chief Minister.

He was reacting to the statement of Virbhadra Singh that he was ready to withdraw cases against the HPCA if it reverted from company to society.

Addressing a press conference, Sanjay said the government had filed a chargesheet against them in the court. “We will prefer to fight the cases rather than expecting from the government to withdraw the cases,” he said.

Sanjay said the statement that he was not politically victimising the HPCA was a lie. The HPCA was a society in 2005 when the Congress government tried to take over the Dharamsala cricket stadium and filed cases against office-bearers of the HPCA. If the CM had just one objection against the HPCA that it was now a non-profit company, then why did the government file cases against it in 2005 when it was a registered society. In fact, the HPCA was forced to convert from a society to the non-profit company to prevent the government from taking over its assets.

In this term also, the government tried to take over the assets of the HPCA. However, the move was stayed by the High Court.

The HPCA was not the only society that had been given government land in the state. It had made maximum utilisation of the space and created cricket infrastructure that had brought Himachal on the world map.

Since the government had filed chargesheet against the HPCA in various cases, it was for the court to decide the matter, he added.
