Karnal student to attend NASA camp

KARNAL: Continuing the tradition of going to NASA set by Indo-American astronaut Kalpana Chawla, this time Smriti Gautam, a Class XII non-medical student from Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School, has been selected by NASA to represent India at a 15-day long summer session of the International Summer Space School Foundation at NASA.

Karnal, July 23

Continuing the tradition of going to NASA set by Indo-American astronaut Kalpana Chawla, this time Smriti Gautam, a Class XII non-medical student from Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School, has been selected by NASA to represent India at a 15-day long summer session of the International Summer Space School Foundation at NASA.

A function was held at the school today where DSP Pooja Dabla felicitated Gautam. “Alumni of this school, Kalpana Chawla made it possible for the students to visit NASA each year to attend a summer camp in 1998. Since then, as many as 33 students have attended this camp and now Smriti will go NASA,” said Rajan Lamba, principal of the school. NASA invites students from all nations for a two-week astronaut’s camp every year, in which they get a chance to see the working environment and lifestyle of the astronauts, he said. — TNS
