As daughter of Australia's late crocodile hunter, it's fitting Bindi Irwin will begin her 17th birthday party by feeding some of the deadly reptiles.

The wildlife warrior's major milestone is being marked with a huge day of Hawaiian-themed celebrations at the family's Australia Zoo on Friday.

Bindi will feed the crocs with mum Terri and brother Robert, before a series of island adventure activities including Hula Dancing workshops, surfing and beach volleyball.

The conservationist is now old enough to drive a car and, as many noted during the week, is old enough to have a boyfriend.

"There is someone special in my life right now, and I'm really happy with that," Bindi told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week.

"Life is wonderful at the moment."

Bindi was just eight years old when her dad Steve, "The Crocodile Hunter", was killed by a stingray in 2006.
