Hyundai India, which made its entry in the SUV segment with the launch of the new Hyundai Creta on Tuesday, is planning to launch a sub-4 metre SVV to expand its market further.

Hyundai India is planning to launch a new MPV and a smaller SUV in 2016, as the Korean manufacturer extends its presence in every segment of the passenger car industry.

The new Hyundai MPV will compete with the Honda Mobilio, Mahindra Xylo and Renault Lodgy, while the smaller compact Hyundai SUV will compete against the Ford EcoSport.

The sub-4 metre SUV will be eligible for the excise duty benefits that should help Hyundai price it competitively.

The MPV will most likely come with the same petrol and diesel variants as the Creta - a 1.6-litre petrol unit that churns out a total power of 123PS and 155Nm of maximum torque, a 1.4-litre diesel that produces 90PS of peak power and 220Nm of peak torque and a 1.6-litre diesel engine that gives a maximum power output of 128PS and maximum torque of 259Nm.

The smaller compact SUV will come with a 1.2-litre petrol that produces 81PS of peak power and 114Nm of peak torque, and a 1.1-litre diesel that churns out a total power output of 72PS and of total torque 180Nm.

The new Hyundai MPV will compete against the Honda Mobilio, Mahindra Xylo and Renault Lodgy, while the smaller compact Hyundai SUV will compete against the Ford EcoSport.

According to reports, both these two new cars will be based on the Hyundai Elite i20 model.

Meanwhile, Hyundai India proposes to produce 5,500 Cretas every month. The car is also expected to give the Ford EcoSport a tough competition.
