So how do you introduce the brothers, who recently created quite a storm on the Bollywood musical charts with their bhangra pop ditties — ‘Baby Doll’ and ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’? Meet the Meet Brothers! “And I am hundred per cent sure you will not regret meeting us,” laughs Harmeet, one half of the Meet Brothers, the other being Manmeet. “Because our buoyant Punjabi-flavoured music and demeanour will leave you re-energised. And if you have still not been initiated into our music, it’s a good time to do so. Join our ‘Party In The Jungle’,” says Harmeet.
The brothers are currently excited about their “wild project”. “It’s our chance to woo the animal planet too with our composing skills,” Harmeet laughs again.
On August 15, Animal Planet launches a campaign as part of their popular Yeh Mera India series. The initiative will take viewers on a journey to explore some of the rarely seen and endangered wildlife of the country. Travelling across the Himalayas, down the mighty Ganges to the shola rainforests and the Western Ghats, the month-long line-up will present India’s incredible wildlife and its pristine natural beauty.
The campaign will be accompanied by a multi-lingual anthem by Harmeet and Manmeet. With its inspiring lyrics, the three-minute composition, choreographed by Feroz Khan, directed by Vishal Punjabi and sung by Meet Brothers, Shibani Kashyap and Neha Bhasin, will capture the sounds and sights of jungle life besides highlighting the need to support the animal kingdom and focus on the complex human-wildlife interactions.
“It feels nice to be able to do something like this; completely away from the routine. Being animal lovers, we grabbed the opportunity when the channel came up with the idea. The anthem is as upbeat and danceable as any of our other numbers. We hope to make monkeys swing faster, lions roar louder and deer leap higher and, of course, make you all sway along,” chuckle the two.
Though they always wanted to be singers, the brothers took up modelling and acting assignments during their years of struggle in Mumbai. “We did many commercials and Hindi soaps such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kkusum . We even did RJing for Radio Chaska, a radio station we started in Gwalior. But all we knew was that music was our goal and never gave up pursuing our dream. And finally it happened. Do Dooni Chaar was our debut film project,” says Harmeet, who is delighted with Bollywood opening up to new sounds. “It’s a great time to be in the industry, which is moving away from stereotypes.”
Getting into an inventive mode, the brothers have done some melody songs in their upcoming films such as Hero , All Is Well and Welcome Back .
“We have done just one song in these films. It’s a trend we almost set — of doing a single track in a film. Though it’s a challenge to make a stand-out number, at the same time you are not bogged down with doing all the songs in a film. What’s more, it gives us enough time to party in the concrete and wooded jungle,” they quip.
