Singapore: Novak Djokovic, world number one and newly-crowned Wimbledon champion, will lead Singapore Slammers in the second season of International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) starting December 2.

The multi-nation tennis league expanded to five teams for the second season with Japan Warriors joining last season’s champions, the Indian Aces, along with UAE Royals, the Phillippine Mavericks and Singapore Slammers.

Djokovic will have former champion Carlos Moya (Spain) as his teammate in the renovated Singapore franchise.

Apart from Moya, Swiss teen sensation Belinda Bencic, Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic), Brazilian doubles specialist Marcelo Melo and rising Australian star Nick Kyrgios are in the fray.

The top players (from ATP and WTA) confirmed their participation for IPTL 2015.

Mahesh Bhupathi, IPTL’s founder and Managing Director said: “Our inaugural season saw past, present and future champions playing in front of packed audiences across Asia. Players and fans enjoyed our ‘new code’ of tennis. We are pleased to return to Singapore for the second year running and tennis fans can look forward to another exciting event.”

In a recorded message to tennis fans in Singapore, world number one Djokovic said: “I have such a great team. And we are going to rock the stage!”
