After floating crane, Kandla Port Trust(KPT) may go for floating godown. A proposal in this regard is in discussion at KPT office. Due to increased arrival of dry cargo at Kandla port, large vessels carrying coal and fertilizers are unable to reach jetty. Some cargo in such ships is handled first by floating crane and later the ship is able to proceed to reach jetty. One of the suggestions that has arrived on table is about setting up a floating godown with the help of one or more barges. The idea is to unload some cargo through floating crane to this floating godown. Cargo loaded on floating godown can be later transferred to open plot through conveyer belt. Such godown can be set up in open space next to jetty no. 16 where KPT has developed 60 care open plot.
