Teen’s Nosebleed Leads To Life-Saving Discovery Of Three Family Members’ Dangerous Illness

One teen’s nosebleed has turned out to be much more serious than anyone could ever imagine. When most people think of a nosebleed, they probably don’t associate it with being a blessing, but in this particular case, it definitely was. In fact, this teen’s nosebleed has reportedly led to three of her family members being diagnosed with a potentially dangerous illness. Now, the compelling story, which entails how her “life-saving nosebleed” also saved her parents, has gone viral.

According to ABC News, it all began back in 2013 when Crystal Enns, then 14, suffered a severe nosebleed that just would not stop. It has been reported that her nosebleed was so bad, she missed school and her parents ended up taking her to the doctor. The information they received was absolutely flabbergasting.

Enns was diagnosed with juvenile nephronophthisis, a severe adolescent kidney disease that leads to “inflammation and scarring of the kidneys and ultimately leads to a life-threatening failure of kidney function,” according to the National Institute of Health. However, that’s not all. Enns’ parents received more daunting news when they were told their daughter would need a kidney transplant.

Needless to say, the shocking news turned their world upside down. “When he [the doctor] first said I would have to have a transplant, I didn’t want to talk about it,” said the now 17-year-old. “I didn’t want to think that that would have to happen.”

Apparently, the teen’s nosebleed indicated that they’d discovered her condition “at the last minute.” During an interview, with CBS-DFW, her parents shared their reaction to doctors’ findings and the “suspcious spot on her kidneys.”

“To find out at the very last minute with the last test that we couldn’t [donate] was devastating,” Crystal’s mom, Cristy, said.

“The doctor that called said. ‘This is lights and sirens. This is top of your ‘to do’ list. This needs to come out right away. This doesn’t look good,'” said her father, Mark. “The idea is that we’re going to go in and do something that can be life-saving for our daughter, only to be told ‘this may have saved your life,’ because I would never have been tested otherwise.”

Although the Enns were devastated over the disheartening news, there’s actually a silver lining. Apparently, an MRI revealed both of Crystal’s parents had the same type of kidney cancer. “They went back and did another MRI on me,” says Cristy, “and it had grown. The crazy thing was, it ended up being the same type of kidney cancer that Mark had.” She added, “It’s scary to think about. Very scary to think about. We’ve got four kids… to find out you have kidney cancer when you’re 39 years old is not something you ever think will happen. So we’re extremely grateful.”

While going through the entire ordeal has been quite a battle for the family, they are grateful that doctors discovered the disease before it was too late, reports Western Journalism. That discovery ultimately saved all three of their lives. If their daughter hadn’t been diagnosed, it’s probably safe to say that no one knows where they’d all be today. Now, the family is moving forward. It has been reported that Cristy’s sister turned out to be a perfect match, and was able to donate a kidney to Crystal back in April. The family thanks God for working things out on their behalf.

“We got to experience firsthand how our God works in mysterious ways,” Cristy told Yahoo Parenting on the three-month anniversary of Crystal’s successful transplant surgery. “In this case, we got to see God bring good out of a very difficult situation, and we are obviously extremely grateful and overwhelmed since Mark and I may never have been tested otherwise.”
