Vedic priests led by Vijayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam performed a Mahayagnam to propitiate Hari, Hara and Brahma here on Wednesday.

Assisted by Mattampalli Dakshinamoorthy, the pontiff performed ‘Purnahuti’ in the afternoon. The seer performed elaborate rituals associated with Kanchi Kamkoti Peetam, including ‘Rurdrabhishekam’ at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Kalyana Mandapam here from dawn.

A large number of devotees, including legislators Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and D.Janardhana Rao, and DSP G. Srinivasa Rao, witnessed the proceedings with reverence.

Blessing the devotees, the pontiff announced setting up of a Sankara Mutt here and wanted philanthropists to contribute for the purpose.

Advocating practice of ‘Sanatana dharma’ followed by our forefathers from time immemorial for the well-being all creatures in the world, he said, “it’s high time people nurtured the country’s glorious cultural traditions and kindled interest in the same to members of Gen X.”
