Ex-Agriculture official convicted in bribery case

Baikunthanath Tosh, former District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Boudh district in Odisha, was convicted in a case of bribery and sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Phulbani Vigilance Court on Wednesday.

He had been caught red-handed by vigilance officials in 2009 while he was accepting Rs.800. The convict has been dismissed from service.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) of Berhampur vigilance division, M. Panda, the convict had demanded this bribe from one Chakas Mahankula to issue fertiliser license.

On Wednesday, Special Vigilance Judge of Phulbani, Pranita Mohanty, pronounced the judgment and sentenced Tosh to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and to pay fine of Rs.5,000.
