Chandrapur: Sleuths of Telangana crime investigation department (CID) rescued 41 commercial sex workers and nabbed as many as 47 pimps, traffickers and brothel owners in massive raids conducted in Gautam Nagar red-light area here. There was a purge in the red-light area during the joint operation by over 200 cops from Telangana and Chandrapur police on the authority of a warrant issued by a court in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.
Many girls, mostly from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, have been deceived and forced into the flesh trade at Gautam Nagar. The Telangana CID team came to rescue the gullible girls coerced into the flesh trade and nab those who deceived them, following a warrant issued by a court in Hyderabad.
“There is case under trail in the sessions court of Hyderabad. The raid was in compliance with a warrant issued in the case. The victim girls deceived and coerced into the flesh trade have been rescued and pimps and agent, who deceived the girls, have been arrested,” said CID, SP, K Venugopal Rao of Telangana.
Over 100 men and women cops from Telangana had arrived in three buses and eight police vehicles in Chandrapur on Tuesday evening. Telangana officials met SP Sandeep Diwan and sought his help to execute the court warrant.
“We gave over 100 cops, including unit of RCP, C-60 sleuth and cops from Ramnagar and City police stations for search operation in red-light area,” said SDPO Pralhad Giri, who led the Chandrapur cops.
A total of 88 people, including 68 women were rounded up in the three-hour-long operation. These include 41 commercial sex workers (CSW). Of these, 25 belong to Telangana, five to Andhra Pradesh and remaining 11 hailed from other states. Total of 47 pimps, agents and brothel keepers, including 27 women, too were arrested.

Local police officials claimed that seven minor boys, aged between 7 to 16 years, were also rescued from brothels. All of them were handed over to child welfare board through Chandrapur city police.
Telangana cops however took all the CSWs and other accused to Police Welfare Hall in Tukum locality here, where all documentary formalities were completed over the day. They were later produced before the local court to obtain transit remand. Telangana police took all of them to Hyderabad later in the night.
Andhra Pradesh police had earlier carried out similar operations in Gautam nagar red-light area on November 28, 2010, following a complaint lodged with Kodal police station in Nalgonda district of then undivided Andhra Pradesh. Andhra cops had then rescued 40 CSWs, including 30 minor girls, and arrested four pimps and 13 brothel keepers in the action.
