A teenager allegedly bludgeoned his father to death at their home in Bhaini Maharajpur village in the district late last night.
The 16–year-old is in police custody. Neighbours and villagers maintained that there was no remorse in the accused.
Villagers said Shri Bhagwan and his son were staying together at the time of the incident. Bhagwan’s wife had died nearly 10 years ago, when his son was young. Since then, the boy used to stay with relatives, since truck driver Bhagwan was in and out of jobs.
While family members of Shri Bhagwan remained tight-lipped over the incident, their neighbours and police investigators maintained that there was some dispute between the father-son over leasing their land.
The accused had promised somebody that they would give their land on contract to him and had reportedly taken some advance.
However, when the father and son got together the deceased turned down the proposal.
A panchayat was held to resolve the issue but to no avail. Last night, both had a fight on this issue following which the accused allegedly bludgeoned his father to death with an iron tool while he was asleep.
Meham DSP Amarjeet said they have arrested the boy.
