Businessman who refused to pay bribe gets his CNG pump
ULHASNAGAR: You can get work done in a government office without paying a bribe. A businessman from Ulhasnagar Nitin Motwani, who had refused to pay a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to have a compressed natural gas pump set up has finally been granted permission to build the pump.
Motwani had accused former town planner of Ulhasnagar municipality, Milind Sonawane, of demanding the bribe to grant permission for the pump.
Sonawane, who had refuted the allegation, was transferred after the anti-corruption bureau launched a probe into the allegation.
After the controversy, chief of Ulhasnagar civic body held a three-day open session where civic officials met those who had difficulty getting their work done. Corporator Jeevan Idnani said the issue had tarnished the civic body’s image. “I’m happy the commissioner has taken an initiative to bring in transparency, with so many complaining of corruption,” he said.
