Singers might be wooing their fans on stage and even from studios across the world, but they have sometimes courted controversy without knowing how.
With a number of singers like Sona Mohapatra, Mika Singh et al, getting into legal trouble in recent times, we bring you other music makers who’ve also ended up offending the authorities:
Sona Mohapatra

Singer Sona Mohapatra and composer Ram Sampath recently found themselves in the middle of muddy waters when their rendition of popular Odiya song Rangabati came under fire.Though the duo refused to apologize, there was a complaint filed against them for tampering with the original song.
50 Cent

2015
Curtis Jackson, became 50 Cent after he was inspired by a criminal of the same name. And as the irony pans out, he has had his share of brushes with law too. In the latest case, he lost a lawsuit for posting a sex tape without the woman’s permission and had to cough up $5 million. Following which he filed for bankruptcy.

Mika Singh

2015
Controversies follow him wherever he goes. In the latest turn of events, Mika Singh slapped a doctor during a concert citing an unruly behavior by the doc. There was a subsequent FIR lodged against the singer, who stood his grounds saying he only wanted to teach the man a lesson.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya

2015
Abhijeet seems to have a penchant for provocative words. He landed in trouble when he posted an insensitive remark online about those sleeping on the sidewalk during the Salman Khan hit and run case hearing earlier this year. Not only did he face flak from Bollywood and the online community, an FIR was filed against him in a Bihar court too.

Honey Singh

Honey Singh has literally walked his way to stardom over controversies. His lyrics have always been the talking point. In 2013, his one particular song faced a lot of flak in the wake of the Nirbhaya case as it reportedly demeaned women. An FIR was lodged against the singer and a number of his performances had to be scrapped amidst protests.
Phil Rudd

Rock stars are known for their notorious behaviour, and AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd lived up to the reputation as he was recently arrested at his house in New Zealand for threatening to kill his co-worker. He has been sentenced to eight month house arrest.

Ankit Tiwari

Ankit Tiwari recently came under fire when a woman, reportedly his girlfriend, accused him of rape. Not only was Ankit arrested against the charges, but his brother was also booked on complaint of making threats to the victim. The case was settled out of court.

Akon’s debut album Trouble had a song Convict that became a chartbuster, but in a twist of fate, Akon was ‘convicted’ for car theft in 1997 and served a three year sentence. In latest investigations, there have been reports that jail term was a carefully designed a publicity stunt. Opinions are divided out on this one.
Lil Wyane

There have been multiple reasons Lil Wyane has had to tackle cops. While he was sentenced to one year in jail for illegally possessing a gun, he also had to serve three year probation for the possession of narcotics. The silver lining: He was released four months early for good behaviour in prison.
