Charles Barkley Tees Off on LeBron James and ‘Trainwreck’
Charles Barkley is never too busy to pass up a good zinger.
For the zillionth year in a row, Barkley attended the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada over the weekend, in the hopes of defying 5,000-1 odds and winning it all. While it didn’t go to plan – the only participant who finished worse was model Kim Alexis – it gave him a platform to show off his new-and-improved swing, which was probably just as gratifying.
Anyway, at one point, Barkley stepped away from the links to chat with Sports Talk Live‘s Jim Kozimor about the 2015 NBA Finals and bang the old drum that is his disdain for jump-shooting teams like the Golden State Warriors. During his spiel, he also managed to throw some shade at LeBron James and his new movie, Trainwreck, via a witty one-liner.
“LeBron flat-out ran out of gas,” Barkley said, defending the Cavaliers. “But you put two more All-Stars on that team, the Warriors still might have won…I would have picked the Cavs if everybody was healthy.
“LeBron should call this Trainwreck 2,” Sir Charles continued, “because the Finals was Trainwreck 1.”
Down Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving for the series, LeBron still led both the Cavaliers and Warriors in points, rebounds and assists. Nobody in NBA history has accomplished that. He also pushed the Warriors to six games when every living soul in the world wrote his team off. Hell, ESPN even (controversially) awarded LeBron with the Best Championship Performance ESPY over Madison Bumgarner, American Pharoah and Lauren Haeger.
But sure, kick a man when he’s down, Chuck. Still, Trainwreck made $30 million at the box office this weekend, so we’re pretty sure LeBron is just fine.
