Local body representative to be disqualified if fails to cast vote

Gujarat Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today took decision to approve an amendment that suggests that if any member elected to local self government body, municipality, municipal corporation or panchayat fails to cast his vote, he/she will lose membership.
The cabinet also approved a decision to hold elections for newly formed Bopal, Sachin and Kadodara municipalities along with general elections later this year.
By polls for vacant seats in Jasdan, Gondal, Petlad, Bagasara, Lathi and Raval municipalities and Surat Municipal Corporation will be held with the general elections that are going to be held in last quarter of this year.
Thus the cabinet today approved amendments in Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act 1949, Gujarat Nagarpalika Adhiniyam 1963 and Gujarat Panchayat Adhiniyam 1963.
