Shroff vs Shroff Mumbai: Chudasama faces Cyril Amarchand, brings home record $280m Warburg-Piramal deal

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) Mumbai office managing partner Akshay Chudasama is acting for Warburg Pincus, which is buying a Rs 1,800 crore minority stake in Piramal Realty, which was advised by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ Mumbai office.

Chudasama, who joined SAM from J Sagar Associates (JSA) six weeks ago to head its Mumbai office, confirmed that he led for Warburg with partner Mithun Thanks.

Cyril Amarchand Mumbai partners Vandana Sekhri and Ravi Kumar are understood to have led for Piramal.

The deal is one of the largest recent real estate deals and will see the Piramal Group’s real estate arm fund growth and acquire land, reported Mint.

Chudasama commented earlier today, when asked about JSA partner Jay Gandhi and team joining:

“It's been fantastic, very very exhilerating. It's been busy but as you know we've hit the ground running. It's fun and games. There's a bit of everything going on, the firm is relatively busy. It's early days yet, but let me put it this way: we have much more work than I had originally expected or anticipated in such a short period of time - it's been six weeks.”
