5 myths Salman Khan broke with 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'

Salman Khan's last few releases and their blockbuster statuses must have made all of us feel that the actor can do only masala films. But with Bajrangi Bhaijaan becoming such a huge hit, the actor has broken a lot of stereotypes that he's associated with...

Any one, who expected Bajrangi Bhaijaan to stumble badly, must have been living all this while in la la land! Salman Khan’s latest film offered no surprise in box office performance, figure-wise, with the movie breaking records, left, right and centre!. But if you see the movie in retrospect to Salman Khan’s other films, there is more to the picture than what meets the eye!

With Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Khan has broken five of the greatest myths his own films have created. These five myths were considered a 'must-have' when it came to a Salman film, but Salman himself proved them to be naught with BB. Let’s see what they are:

Myth: Salman Khan must go shirtless!

The first image that comes to your mind when it's Salman, is his shirtless avatar! Blame it on O O Jaane Jaana from Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, but since then, every film that had Bhai in it, followed a trademark routine - to get him shirtless! In fact, directors try and find innovative ways to get him tear off his shirt, like the infamous Hulk scene in Dabanng!

What BB did: Salman Khan does go shirtless and show off his abs in this film as well. But it’s not the kind of scene you would maaro ceetees and dance wildly. In fact, many of you must be crying your hearts out when it happens! I wouldn’t even dare to call that scene a Salman scene, ‘cos simply it wasn’t!

Myth: The success of a Salman flick is directly proportional to the number of goons he kicks in the air!

With the number of villains, Salman and his likes had sent flying in the air, I was afraid it would be raining goons this monsoon! Every Salman blockbuster had him doing some kick-ass stunts, which involved people defying all sorts of gravitational laws.

What BB did: There was a fight scene, oh yes! But compared to Salman’s other fight scenes that we have witnessed in the past, it’s like a India-Zimbabwe ODI! Not just that, here Salman doesn't handle 50 people at once. Rather, the fight scene in the film has been shot in a very realistic fashion. There's the inevitable slow-mo to bring in the effect but Salman's action moves in the film are way different from the ones we usually see him doing.

Myth: An item song has to be there!

Munni Badnaam Hui Darling Tere Liye, Fevicol Se…, Character Dheela, Yaar Na Miley…. Bhai must do some dhinchak dance with a hot item girl!

What BB did: The only Munni in this film is a sweet little girl from Pakistan. End of discussion.

Myth: Bhai ka film…bole toh one-liners must hai!

The above picture says it all…In fact, I would even go on to say that after Amitabh Bachchan of the ’70s and the ’80s, Salman Khan is the baap of one-liners!

What BB did: Apart from some really heart-rending scenes, do you recall any line which falls under the category of Salman-isms? I really don’t…

Myth: Bhai pe koi haath hi nahi lagaa sakta!

As each film went by, Salman was becoming more like Rajinikanth. Apart from getting a few hits here and there, he is never beaten down! Bhai ko maarna mushkil hi nahi hai….namumkin hai!

What BB did: I have only two words for you – the climax! If you have no clue what I am trying to say, just go and watch the movie. For once, Salman was not this super-human but just Being Human...
