Kolkata: Uber terminates driver accused of obscene behaviour

Authorities at Uber quickly reacted after news of a Uber cab driver mastrubating while driving came out. 

In a statement, Uber said that the accused driver has been terminated from services and passenger safety is their priority.

“In this case, we immediately connected with our rider, suspended the driver partner and assisted the local authorities with all necessary information required for their investigation. In fact, the rider was satisfied with our immediate assistance and action and continues to frequently use Uber post this alleged incident,” said the statement from Uber.

“On July 8, a lady working with a South Kolkata mall was travelling in a Uber cab from Elgin Road to Netaji Nagar around 7pm. During the journey, she noticed that the cab driver was driving the car with one hand and masturbating with another hand. She filed a complaint with the Bhawanipur police station,” Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (South Division) Murlidhar Sharma told dna.

An FIR was filed against the accused, Pintu Yadav and the police slapped charges 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) on him. The police arrested the accused from the Tiljola area on Monday night and produced him before the court on Tuesday. Later, the court granted him bail.

A week back, a Delhi-based woman had accused a driver of app based cab service, Ola cabs, of masturbating while driving her from South Delhi's Saket to Faridabad.

The woman detailed her ordeal through a Facebook post on July 3. However, she is yet to file any official complaint with police.
