Madhura Naranga Movie Review

Critic's Rating: 3.5/5
Story: Taxi driver Jeevan lives with his roommates in Sharjah. A Sri Lankan girl enters their lives and the ensuing events form the story.

Review: Madhura Naranga comes across as another romantic potboiler from its trailer, but turns out to be a lot more. The tagline ‘based on a real incident’ and the depiction of the same with maturity and sensibility has given the movie its innate strength. An international love story, the film combines realism with unrestrained emotion and sentimentality.

Taxi drivers Jeevan (Kunchacko Boban), Salim (Biju Menon) and super market employee Kumar (Neeraj Madhav) are roommates in Sharjah. Out of the blue, the Sri Lankan girl, Thamara, (Parvathy Ratheesh) enters their lives, with whom Jeevan falls in love. However, things aren’t easy for them as Thamara doesn’t have a passport. The film is about their struggles to lead a normal life in the country, amid legal hassles.

What’s most likable about the film is its story, which gives all the characters ample scope for matured performances and enough room for situational comedy. Incidents flow into each other smoothly and the story’s pace is well-balanced. Having played the lover boy so many times in the past, the good boy Jeevan is a cakewalk for Kunchacko. The role also demanded him to emote at a whole new level as the character passes through turbulent times and the actor has done justice to it. Biju Menon’s role isn’t much different from the ones in which the duo have acted together in the past. Debutante Parvathy Ratheesh does quite well for a beginner and the team deserves applause for picking her for the role. That said, she can improve a lot more when it comes to song sequences. Some of the scenes, however, look unwanted and could have been chopped off.

This Madhura Naranga would be a delicious pick for those who are looking for a movie with its layers of tastes well balanced.
