Besh Korechi Prem Korechi Movie Review

BKPK is a mindless entertainer that you can actually enjoy if you leave your finer senses home.

Abhi (Jeet) stirs up a hornets’ nest when he helps the sister of an underworld kingpin elope on her wedding day. Then he falls for the don’s other sister, Rai (Koel). What transpires is a rib-tickling game of cat and mouse.

Besh Korechi Prem Korechi is another superstar-chhaap entertainer — all style and oomph, and near-zero acting-shacting. But that doesn’t mean you’ll dislike the film. It’s good, in its own the-universe-revolves-around-Jeet kind of way.

I know I’ll die asking why the shrewdest of villains (and their 300-odd sidekicks) bite the dust by the mouthful when the Indian screen hero gets angry, but that’s exactly what happens in this film too. And thanks to pathbreakers like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the bad guys don’t just get thrashed nowadays; they fly, spin and bounce like balloons the moment the hero throws a punch, or a kick. BKPK, too, is full of flying and bouncing bad guys, and obviously, catcalls by the gallons!

Finer aspects apart, the film, as I mentioned at the outset, is not exactly a treasure trove for those who like to see their actors ‘act’. Everyone is so busy revolving around the superstar — who, obviously, is busy being himself — that there’s hardly any room for finer things like good acting. But yes, overacting is something you see in abundance. Why, even acting powerhouses like Ashish, who plays Rai’s bad guy big bro, hardly gets the scope to impress. As for the lead pair, well, someone should give them a lesson in chemistry. It’s appallingly missing from their act. At times, even Rai’s grin of glee seems forced when she’s around the man of her dreams. Kharaj, however, manages to keep things lively with his fantastic comic timing. His expressions when he sees his hot screen wife flirting with Abhi can well be deemed priceless.

Technically, there’s hardly anything spectacular, though the foreign locales pep things up every now and then. It was heartening to see the joyous expressions of the foreign dancers who matched steps with the lead pair to the title track. The music is run-of-the-mill dance-today-forget-tomorrow stuff, with nothing special about the background track. In fact, the track that plays with the opening titles is pretty disappointing, and so are the title graphics.

But yes, BKPK is a mindless entertainer that you can actually enjoy if you leave your finer senses home. It does demand a bit of your time, liberal with the duration as it is, but it will certainly give you that feeling of brainless euphoria that every superstar-chhaap film does with elan. But yes, before you go, get online or try Fancy or Chandni markets to check if there’s a catcall filter available. You’ll need one as soon as the projector starts rolling.
