One held on chain snatching charge

A person who was allegedly involved in chain snatching and pickpocketing was arrested in the city on Tuesday.

Suresh, a resident of Hosamane locality in Bhadravathi, was nabbed when he was trying to sell the gold ornaments that he had stolen, at a jewellery shop in Gandhi

Bazaar locality.

Police said that Suresh, along with three women accomplices who also are residents of Bhadravathi city, used to snatch chains and lift purses of women in crowded buses. During investigation, Suresh revealed that the women members of his gang used to wear burqa to hoodwink the passengers and the police. He has confessed to his involvement in three chain snatching incidents in Doddapet police station limits and one in Kote police station limits in the city last month.

The stolen jewellery worth Rs 2.50 lakh have been seized from him. A case under section 378(theft) of Indian Penal Code has been booked against him. The police have launched a hunt to nab the remaining accused.
