Senior citizen held for circulating fake currency
MUMBAI: A senior citizen was arrested by the Goregaon police on Monday for circulation of fake currency. The 62-year-old accused later told the police that he had been given the fake currency at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh and was supposed to circulate it in Mumbai. The police are probing whether he was earning a commission for his work.
Around 10 pm on Monday, the accused approached an ice-cream vendor on the street at SV Road in Goregaon West.
He paid him Rs 100 and purchased ice-cream. But the vendor, Rajan Pal, noticed that something was wrong with the currency note. Pal alerted the police who took the accused into custody.
"We found 12 fake currency notes with the accused. He told us that he had brought 20 fake currency notes from Madhya Pradesh and had managed to circulate eight of them in Mumbai," said Sunil Wadke, senior inspector, Goregaon police station.
