A 37-year-old man wanted in Kazakhstan for rape, murder and robbery has been arrested in Pattaya, police said.

Kazakh national Syrym Parmanov was apprehended in front of his rented house at SP Village 3 on Pornprapanimit Road Chonburi province's Bang Lamung district Tuesday evening, said Pol Lt Voraphan Inpaeng, a deputy investigation chief at the Immigration Division 3.

The Kazakhstan embassy in Bangkok coordinated with Immigration police help track down the fugitive wanted on an Interpol "red notice" for conspiring with four others to rape and murder a woman back home before making off her car in mid-2010, Pol Lt Voraphan said.

Mr Parmanov had entered Thailand on a student visa on Nov 25 last year and later went into hiding in tambon Nong Prue. The suspect was held in custody at Bang Lamung police station before being handed over to the embassy.
