Sabyasachi on hunger strike again

July 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - BERHAMPUR:

Arrested Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, who had started hunger strike in Berhampur circle jail on July 15, was shifted to MKCG medical college and hospital on Tuesday as his condition deteriorated.

It is for the third time that Sabysachi has resorted to hunger strike in jail during past few months. Earlier he had started hunger strike on April 22, which had ended in the MKCG medical college and hospital on May 1. He had also observed hunger strike for five days from March 31. Demands related to his hunger strike remain the same.

According to his legal counsel, Dipak Patnaik, his major demand is that the State government should inform him about total number of cases pending against him in different courts in Odisha. He had also approached the Odisha High Court with the same plea. “ The Odisha government has informed the High Court that only eleven cases are pending against Sabyasachi, nine of them in Nayagarh district and two in Berhampur court. This is a falsity as at present Sabyasachi is facing trial in 32 cases,” said Mr Patnaik. He criticised the government for providing wrong information to the High Court.

Sabyasachi is also demanding speedy trial of all cases. He also wants that he should be made present during hearing all cases against him in different courts of the state. He alleges taking various pleas like security problem, he is not being taken to courts in different places during hearings.
