Workers attached to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) from Goodupalle of the drought-hit Mulakalacheruvu mandal on Tuesday poured out their woes to District Collector Siddarth Jain.

The workers told the Collector that they were facing starvation and consequently suffered from malnutrition. They brought to Mr. Jain’s notice that Mulakalacheruvu mandal received no rain this year, with the result that agriculture was severely affected. “No one gives us work. If you can’t provide us livelihood, we have no option but to commit suicide,” they said.

Responding to their appeal, the Collector issued instructions to officials, asking them to make NREGS workers participate in Neeru-Chettu programmes.
