ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The director of New York’s ethics board has been tapped by the governor to lead criminal investigations at the state’s tax department.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office announced Tuesday that Letizia (la-TEE’-sha) Tagliafierro (tag-lee-uh-fee-AIR’-oh) has been appointed deputy commissioner of the Criminal Investigations Division at the Department of Taxation and Finance.
Tagliafierro had served as executive director of the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics since October 2013. Previously, she worked for Cuomo going back to his time as attorney general and is herself a former assistant district attorney in Erie County.
The Commission on Public Ethics will choose Tagliafierro’s replacement. The commission was created in 2011 as an independent body to administer state ethics laws and investigate potential violations by the legislative and executive branches.
