Mohali, Dharamsala to host World T20 matches

NEW DELHI: Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the final of the World Twenty20 next year, the BCCI said on Tuesday.

New Delhi, July 21

Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the final of the World Twenty20 next year, the BCCI said on Tuesday. The BCCI named eight venues for the biennial event, which has been staged across three cities in each of its previous five editions.

Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi will be the other venues for the March 11-April 3 event.

It has been learnt that Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is in line for one of the two semifinals while Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla in all likelihood will host the other semifinal.

Dharamsala will host an India game against one of the qualifiers.

The showpiece event of the shortest format will take place for the first time in the cricket-crazy nation. India had won the inaugural World T20 in 2007. Sri Lanka won the last edition of the tournament in Bangladesh in 2014.

Meanwhile, the All-India Senior Selection Committee will meet in Delhi on Thursday to select the team for the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka. India will play three Test matches against Sri Lanka starting on August 12. — Agencies
