Mohit Mallik: I still feel a part of 'Doli Armaanon Ki'
The decision of choosing dance reality show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' over 'Doli Armaanon Ki', hasn’t been easy for actor Mohit Mallik. In a quest to realise his dream of participating in the show, he had to forgo the extension of his most loved character Samraat in the latter. He was ousted from the ongoing daily soap as the channel wasn’t happy with his decision to appear on a show in a rival channel.
He says, “The perception is that Samraat ended because of me and that I ditched them by leaving the show.
People feel that I opted for 'Jhalak...' and I left 'Doli...' in lurch after I became popular, which is not true.” The actor says that both the channel and the production house were in the loop when he signed the dance show. “Jhalak... has always been a dream. That’s the only reality show I ever wanted to do. The dance show was offered to me last year too, and issues had cropped up even then. I decided to let it pass back then as 'Doli...' had just started. I didn’t want to disturb the graph of Samraat as the character is very close to me. Whatever I am today, it’s because of Samraat and I got 'Jhalak...' because of 'Doli...'. They wanted to sign me exclusively during the renewal of the contract again in November, which didn’t happen. I asked them again if I am allowed to take up other shows, to which they replied in positive. Both principally and ethically, I am not wrong. Had I been exclusive, I wouldn’t have done it,” he says.

Mohit maintains that that he would've continued had the character of Samraat continued in the show. "I am quite attached to the character of Samraat, he has been created by me. I wouldn’t have taken up anything else if it was not ending. In fact, I finalised to play Samraat's son, Shaurya as well, and I had already started physically and mentally preparing myself for the same,” he states, but the broadcaster felt that he won’t be able to devote the time needed to establish Shaurya if he took up another project. “I tried my best to convince them that I could manage both. 'Jhalak...' is two days a week. I would have slept for four hours, but would have managed it. I just need four hours for technicals in 'Jhalak...' and one day for the shoot. I would have rehearsed post shoot. But they were not convinced and asked me to choose. I am sad that I am not part of it. We parted ways amicably. There is no negativity. I still feel a part of 'Doli...' and I am proud to have been associated with it. People know the truth. I don’t want to create any bad blood with anyone," adds the actor.
Is Mohit following the show post his exit? “I haven’t seen it post the leap. I am aware of the casting of Shaurya though. It pinches me that I couldn’t play the part as only I know what I have done for the show. I had given my blood and sweat to it,” he says.
The actor is now preparing for his journey on Jhalak... “I have lost three kilos already. I want to win every challenge I take up. I know my strengths and weaknesses. I am not a great dancer, but I want to become a better dancer,” he sums up.
