Re: James Cave: Torn to shreds by Sister Harvey

James's admission of being torn to shreds by Sister Harvey will undoubtedly bring many a smile to anyone who worked in CCU. She was a formidable character but she was one of the best role models. She didn't just tear young doctors (or house plants as she called them) to shreds, no she dosed out advice in equal amounts to student nurses, staff nurses and even the odd consultant or two.

She ensured the highest standards of patient care and always encouraged the nurses to be proactive and was always advancing practice (way before nurse practitioners became a reality).

The best story I heard was about a student nurse who spent the morning working with her and confided: 'I've heard the other Sister Harvey is a bit of a nightmare.' Sister Harvey smiled and didn't tell her that she had just spent the morning with said person. She knew the student would find out soon enough ....
