Israel's Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has officially asked the police to open a criminal investigation into the expenses of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his homes in Jerusalem and Caesarea. The decision comes after a preliminary study by Weinstein of the examination by State Comptroller Joseph Shapira. The person currently considered to be the main suspect in the affair who is responsible for the irregularities uncovered by the State Comptroller is the former deputy director general, operations in the Prime Minister's Office Ezra Seidoff. He was responsible for hiring staff and making payments. At this stage, and despite the criticism in the State Comptroller's report, there is no suspicion cast on the prime minister's wife Sara Netanyahu but she will likely be called upon to give evidence to the police.
