DUMKA: Godda MP Nishikanth Dubey (BJP) on Sunday backed Jharkhand State cricket Association president Amitabh Choudhary's proposal to build an international cricket stadium at Deoghar.
After JSCA's daylong annual meeting in Deoghar on Sunday, Choudhary said Deoghar tops the list of places where the cricket body plans to build a cricket stadium.
Choudhary said: "Deoghar is the most viable place for an international cricket stadium considering its wide recognition in the country and abroad because of the famous Baidyanath Dham temple.
The civil aviation department is also making efforts to build an airport here and that would help bring international cricket matches to the town."
JSCA's annual meeting was organised in Santhal Pargana for the first time since the state was carved out of Bihar.
Dubey, who had earlier been advocating for bringing Santhal Pargana on the country's sports map, said, "I have always been advocating for international stadium in Deoghar. As of now, when the JSCA president has himself expressed such willingness, I will leave no stone unturned to make it a reality."
Dubey said he would take the SKM University administration into confidence for providing land belonging o the existing Deoghar College stadium in the heart of the temple town.

"I have asked the Deoghar College principal for pursuing the matter with the SKMU administration and will personally take up the matter with the vice-chancellor," Dubey said.
When asked if an international cricket stadium in Deoghar figured in the JSCA meeting agenda, Choudhary said the matter was discussed at length. "The fact that all the stakeholders, including the JSCA members and local public representatives, are unanimous on their stand for the stadium is significant."
Common cricket lovers and representatives of respective district cricket associations are also overwhelmed by the developments. "An international cricket stadium will not only give Deoghar international recognition but also go a long way in popularizing cricket in the region," said Vijay Jha, secretary of Deoghar district cricket association.
