Murdered girl's parents seek PM nod for suicide

RANCHI: Vikas and Jaba Roy, the Chatra-based parents of a teenage girl who died two years ago have sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commit self-immolation because the authorities have failed to provide justice to their daughter.
Bidisha Roy, student of the Ranchi-based Hi Q International academy, was found hanging in her hostel room on September 12, 2013.
Her parents had lodged an FIR of murder at the Bariatu police station the next day accusing the school director and chairman of her killing. Police, however, treated the case as suicide and did not investigate it the murder angle.
The Roys believe that the matter was hushed up by the police in connivance with the school management as their plea for investigation from the angle of sexual exploitation and murder was not probed. The FIR (number 320/2013) lodged by Roy with Bariatu police, names Central Academy School chairman Harishankar Chaturvedi and World Buddha Foundation assistant director Subhash Kirpekar as accused.
The parents had written to the PMO on September 22, 2013, demanding thorough investigation into the matter, following which a direction was sent to the Jharkhand chief secretary.
The victim's mother said that she believes that they have no hope of getting justice.
"We have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow us kill ourselves because we as parents have failed to bring her justice," she said, adding that they have made up their minds to commit self-immolation in front of the chief minister's residence.

Unwilling to buy the suicide theory, Vikas said that the post-mortem report made it evident that their daughter was sexually harassed.
"The report doesn't rule out strangulation, but the police have not arrested any of those named in the FIR and seem to have given them a clean chit by describing the murder as suicide," he said.
The parents had approached erstwhile chief minister Hemant Soren demanding a CBI probe. Soren had assured them of handling over the case to CBI.
"We sat on a dharna with her body when the police and school management were trying to paint it as a case of suicide.
Chatra remained closed for a day in protest, the PMO has written to the state government and even the former CM assured of a CBI probe, but nothing happened. We have taken the last recourse of committing suicide after informing the Prime Minister," Roy said.
