It's a Sunday. Your favourite author is in town for an interaction. You have no clue and are lazing around at home. The next day, you read about the event in the papers. And you regret, how you wish you'd known earlier! Fans of author Ravi Subramanian don't have to worry about missing chances like these. The banker has become the first Indian writer to have an app of his own. It went live on the Apple store on July 11, 2015, and aims to keep informed about book readers informed about book releases and events. It has already been downloaded more than 300 times.

The app has various sections --'About Me', books, photos, etc.The Fan Wall is a public forum where people can discuss his books and are free to appreciate or criticize them.

"The app is a sure-shot way of reaching readers through notifications about book releases, events and orders. I can also perform targeted messaging, based on the geographic location of readers. For example, I can notify fans in Bengaluru if I'm speaking at an event there," he said. The IIM-Bangalore graduate thinks he's a brand. He calls authors the CEOs of their books.

Subramanian, who uses several other avenues to touch base with his fans, including blogs and Instagram, was one of the first writers to adopt the idea of the social lock. It works like this -social media users have to share a particular post or tweet and once a certain target is reached, content such as the book's cover or the first chapter is unlocked.

"This increases the buzz online and gets people talking about a book before its release. It also helps establish a loyal and long-term readership," he added.
