Estonian public television celebrates 60th birthday

Estonian biggest public service TV channel Eesti Televisioon (ETV) celebrated its 60th birthday on July 19th 2015, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Many legendary TV hosts and staff members gathered in the TV building in central Tallinn to celebrate the event and there was also an outing to the Metsakalmistu cemetery to commemorate the departed TV people.

 

ETV, then called Tallinna Televisioonistuudio (1955-1965) had its first test show on air on July 19, 1955. The first broadcasting day lasted for 2 hours and 35 minutes.

 

On June 1, 2007, Eesti Televisioon and Estonian public radio Eesti Raadio were merged into Eesti Rahvusringhääling or Estonian Public Broadcasting Company.

 

ETV2 is the second TV channel of Estonian Public Broadcasting. I went live on 8 August 2008. The Public Broadcasting is also preparing the launch of a third, Russian-language channel.
