Left parties are the only alternative to the corruption-ridden Congress and the BJP in the Centre and the AIADMK and the DMK in the State, Communist Party of India (Marixst) secretary G. Ramakrishnan said.

Addressing a demonstration against corruption of the State and Central Government, he said there was no difference between those parties when it came to corruption. Narendra Modi came to power in the Centre promising a corruption-free, honest and transparent Government.

However, scams under the BJP Government was coming out one after the other. “Modi’s own cabinet colleague and External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, and his party Chief Minister of Rajasthan, VasundraRaje Scindia, have helped former Indian Premier Legaue chairman, Lalit Modi, for his passport and visa-related issues. They have helped a man, wanted by the Indian police for committing a fraud to the tune of Rs. 1,700 crore, without the knowledge of the Government,” he charged.

Similarly, the Vyapam scam in appointment to Government jobs and admission to professional courses in Madhya Pradesh has so far claimed lives of 49 people who were probing it. “BJP-ruled States like Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh were no different in terms of corruption,” he said.

Similarly, the AIADMK regime in Tamil Nadu was also trapped in corruption and sand, garnet and granite were being plundered. Mr. Ramakrishnan cited the suicide of Agricultural Engineering Department official Muthukumarasamy. He was forced to end his life as he could not withstand the pressure from the former Minister Agri Krishnamoorthy, to collect money for filling in the vacancies in his department.

Even in the recent memorandum of understanding signed with Adani, the Tamil Nadu Government has agreed to pay a higher price for the power to be purchased from its solar power plant. “The State Government has to bear a huge loss on this account,” he said.
