The new Nirbhaya centre at Edakkattuvayail, built at a cost of Rs. 1.2 crore, can house a hundred women.

The centre built in one acre land will have a counselling centre, exercise facilities, sports and recreation area besides a large kitchen and mess hall.

The centre will have rehabilitation facilities to empower women economically, said the district panchayat president Eldose Kunnappillil.

With approval from the State, the Nirbhaya centre being run in a rented facility near the city will be shifted to the new centre, he added.
