July 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - HUBBALLI:

Shivakumar Udasi, MP, has urged the General Manager of South Western Railway to expedite the process of developing the Gadag Railway Station.

Mr. Udasi, who met General Manager Praveen Kumar Saxena at his office in Hubballi recently, urged him to identify land for constructing a goods shed near the station that would be convenient for farmers as well as merchants.

He took exception to the cancellation of temporary halts for Dharwad- Mysuru and Mysuru-Dharwad trains at Byadgi and Yalavigi railway stations and urged him to immediately revoke it. Mr. Udasi also requested for continuation of the Parcel Service at Haveri Railway Station for express trains. Pointing out that funds had been sanctioned for development of infrastructure at railway stations from Hulakoti to Hallikeri on Hubballi-Ballari route and Kalasur to Chalageri on the Hubballi-Davanagere route, Mr. Udasi asked Mr Saxena to initiate the process for taking up development works. He also suggested submitting a proposal to the State government for taking up construction of road overbridge at Byadgi-Motebennur level-crossing on cost-sharing basis.

Mr. Udasi also told the general manager that funds had been sanctioned under the MPLAD fund for providing chairs for passengers and installation of CCTV cameras at Gadag Railway Station.
