Svitolina beaten in Istanbul

Second seed Elina Svitolina tumbled out of the BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup with a straight-sets defeat to Magdalena Rybarikova on Monday as three of the top players suffered an early exit.

The 20-year-old Ukrainian number one fell to a 6-1 6-3 loss to her Slovakian opponent in just over an hour in Turkey.

Russia's Daria Gavrilova became the third seed to fall during first-round action as she was knocked out by Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine in the final match on Court One.

The 21-year-old sixth seed lost the first set but battled back to clinch the second before finally losing 7-6 (7/2) 3-6 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 47 minutes.

Seventh seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia opened proceedings on Garanti Koza Arena and was sent packing after a one-sided 6-2 6-1 defeat to Italian Roberta Vinci. Serbian Bojana Jovanovski fought back to record a 5-7 6-3 6-4 victory over Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
