Contractor should pay compensation if they maintain expressway

MUMBAI: The state government should recover the compensation amount from toll contractor if he is responsible for the maintenance of the Mumbai-Pune express way, Ramraje Nimbalkar, Chairman of the Maharashtra legislative council instructed the government. Congress also demanding Charges of murder be invoked on the contractor, which leads to killed three lives.The government however has assured about taking precautionary measures to avoid landslide incidents in future.
On Sunday morning, three people killed in the major landslide near Adoshi tunnel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The issue has been raised by Congress MLC Sanjay Dutt in the legislative council which supported by NCP Dhananjay Munde and others. Dutt said, “It was second incident of landslide in a month. The government should charge murder case against those who are responsible for these deaths. The government answer what measures they are taking to avoid these incidents. The government should construct a superspecialty hospital in Lonawala as injured had to take 70 km away from the accident spot,” pointed Dutt.
While replying to the issue Eknath Shinde PWD minister, “There are 6-7 dangerous spots on expressway. I have called a meeting of experts and geologists who will guide us in using the most advanced technology to avoid landslides incidents in future." The minister also said that Rs 4 lakh each has been given as compensation to victim’s relative.
Jayant Patil PWP MLC then said instead of government, the compensation should be paid by the contractor who collect the toll on the expressway and said that the state is already under the debt. Chairman however instructed government that the compensation should pay by the toll contractor if maintenance is responsibility of contractor.
