Director-actor siblings in the film industry
The upcoming Kannada movie Last Bus reunites the director-actor brother duo of SD Aravind and Avinash Narasimharaju in their second collaboration since the critically-acclaimed Jugaari. The brothers are a part of an elite group of filmi siblings who work together, with one calling the shots and the other toeing that line. Here are some of Sandalwood’s director-actor duos...

Anup Bhandari-Nirup (RangiTaranga) The sons of director Sudhakar Saaja, Anup and Nirup, released their first big-screen venture recently. The film has not only held strong at the box office despite a big-ticket Telugu release, but also been warmly received by critics as well.
Dinakar Thoogudeepa-Darshan (Navagraha, Saarathi) The sons of actor Toogudeepa Srinivas, Darshan and Dinakar work together often, since they have their own production house. But Dinakar has directed his brother a couple of times, and is expected to helm another film with him.
Kishore Sarja-Arjun Sarja (Alimaya) Kishore not only chose direction as a career, but Kannada cinema remained his calling till his untimely death. Younger brother Arjun, who found stardom in Kollywood, worked with Kishore on his debut directorial, Alimaya.
Ayyappa Sharma-Ravi Shankar (Varadanayaka) Brothers Ayyappa Sharma, P Ravi Shankar and Sai Kumar have been in films for decades, mostly in front of the camera. But when Ayyappa turned director, he got Kannada cinema’s favourite villain, Ravi Shankar, to be a part of the project.
V Ravichandaran-Balaji (Aham Premaasmi) Known to direct himself in many of his Kannada films, Crazy Star V Ravichandaran then helmed his brother Balaji's debut project Aham Premaasmi. The brothers never collaborated thereafter.
Shankar Nag-Anant Nag (Minchina Ota, Hosa Theerpu, etc.) Both celebrated actors, Shankar and Anant collaborated on Minchina Ota, which got the latter the Karnataka State Award for Best Actor. Shankar directed his brother in films like, Janma Janmada Anubandha, Hosa Theerpu, etc.
