PALAKKAD: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that his party is not against any religion, but against communalising religions for narrow political interests.
Inaugurating the district committee office of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) here on Sunday, he said, "We oppose communalism in the name of religion, as we stand to protect secular traditions of the country. This is not appeasement of minorities like few have alleged." He said that protection of minorities is the duty of majority communities.
The victory of BJP in the last Lok Sabha election was the victory of Hindu majority communalism. This is now posing a threat to minority communities, he added. tnn
The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru had warned against destroying the secular fabrics of the country, as it might ultimately result in disintegration of the country.
He said that the BJP government at Centre is corporatizing the country. He is bringing changes in labour laws to keep out 80 per cent of the workers form protective labour laws of the country. This is done to appease the corporate, Balakrishnan said.
