The play-way method of teaching is no longer restricted to classroom lessons as personality development trainers believe that the concept can be applied even to inculcate moral values among children.

Representatives of the Vizag Children’s Club (VCC) went a step further to reach out to the children of 60-odd clubs spread across the district by presenting a two-day volunteers’ training programme at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Kalakshetram, Ukkunagaram, recently.

In order to provide holistic education to about 60 children of each club, the VCC planned to equip students, studying in Classes X to XII, with the much-required skills through this programme.

“In turn, these students will train the club’s children located in Marikavalasa, Vambay Colony, Anjaiah Nagar, Arilova, and Paradesipalem, among other neighbourhoods, in a range of skills,” says G.V. Satya Kumar, VCC secretary.

A team of resources persons gave an insight into developing leadership qualities, communication skills, teamwork, and moral values through a series of games and outdoor activities. “The idea is to grab children’s attention and engage them throughout the session. And the effective way to do this is to involve them in various peace-oriented games to get your message across,” says Monica, member of Creative Leadership and Young People, who trained students in creative thinking and leadership qualities required at different levels. More than 150 students from a number of schools took part in the workshop. They felt that the platform provided them an opportunity to overcome their own challenges. “Basically, I am an introvert and never could overcome the fear of public speaking. After getting associated with the club as a trainer, I find it much easier to interact with people. As a trainer, my primary objective is to bring about a change among those who struggle to tide over similar challenges,” says Aswin Kumar, an Intermediate student.
