A man has been arrested on charge of smuggling teak logs in Bhairapura village in Sagar taluk.

Shabbir Ahmed, a resident of Masidikeri locality in Shikaripur town, has been arrested. It is alleged that Shabbir was transporting teak logs in a four wheeler in an unauthorised manner. To hoodwink the personnel of Department of Forest at the check-post, he had installed the board of a private pickle company on his vehicle.

Forest officials tried to stop the vehicle near Bhairapura, but when Shabbir refused to stop, they chased and intercepted the four-wheeler a few kilometres away from the village.

The Forest personnel have arrested Shabbir and seized the vehicle and the logs. Another person in the vehicle, said to be an associate of the arrested, managed to escape. The total worth of logs seized is estimated to be around Rs. 75,000.
