The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered to cut the trees on either sides of the Laha- Sabarimala road which pose a threat to the public. Commission chairman J.B. Koshy issued the order on a petition filed by Prasad Kuzhikala following the death of a pilgrim from Telangana when a tree fell on him on the Chandranandan road earlier this month. The government was bound to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

The Travancore Devaswom Board should bring to the notice of the Forest Department the need for felling such trees, he said.
