Women activists expressed their commitment to work hard for making 82nd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to be held in Raichur in October a success.
Preparatory meeting
They were speaking at a preparatory meeting convened by Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Reception Committee of Sahitya Sammelan at Kannada Bhavana here on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Mahantesh Maski, district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and attended by Jayalakshmi Mangala Murhty, R. Indira and Shakuntala Gopishetty and women writers and activists. The meeting discussed about decorations, the sammelana venue, ensuring cleanliness, organising the procession, ensuring a plastic-free event, providing valuable information about historical places and structures in the district through exhibitions, establishing helplines, providing attractive uniforms to women volunteers, organising a special session for reflecting the rich literary and cultural tradition of the district, chaos-free food serving and other issues.
Some members pressed for taking measures to ensure that women delegates get adequate importance in all deliberating sessions.

1,000 volunteers
A meeting of heads of National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, Bharat Scouts & Guides and Seva Dal was convened.
The meeting resolved to deploy as many as 1,000 volunteers from different sources.
The importance of a properly trained volunteer force for a successful organisation of sammelan was unanimously felt. The need of providing quality food and proper staying arrangements for the volunteers for a week was also stressed.
In another meeting, representatives of several civil-society organisations —including Hyderabad Karnataka Vimochana Vedike, Veerashiva Samaj, Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samithi Bhageeratha Samaj, All India Democratic Students’ Union and Dasa Sahitya Adhyayana Kendra — expressed their support for making the sammelan a great success.
It was resolved to write all degree and Pre-University colleges as well as the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur seeking their active support and participation. Honorary district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat S. Sharanegowda, the former president Ayyappa Tukkayi, general secretary Ranganna Patil Allundi, theatre person V.N. Akki and others were present.
