Bhagwan Singh institute to distribute 1 lakh ‘mahua’ saplings to farmers

DEHRADUN: As part of the Harela celebrations, the management of the Sardar Bhagwan Singh (PG) Institute of Biomedical Sciences & Research, Balawala, Dehradun, has decided to produce and distribute one lakh plants of mahua to farmers every year.

Dehradun, July 19

As part of the Harela celebrations, the management of the Sardar Bhagwan Singh (PG) Institute of Biomedical Sciences & Research, Balawala, Dehradun, has decided to produce and distribute one lakh plants of mahua to farmers every year.

The programme was initiated in the presence of Forest Minister Dinesh Aggarwal today. Chairman of the institute SP Singh said, “Ten quintals of proven viable seeds of mahua are brought from the FRI, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh to produce seedlings at the institute.” The biotech department of the institute is also engaged in a research work on amla, ‘mahua’ and other endangered species.

Ranger of the Lacchiwala forest region Vishwapal Chawdhary, deputy ranger Mohan Singh Rawat, forest inspector Satyaprasad Vinjola, forest beat officer Bhagat Ram Chamoli and Jeevan Nath were also present.
