In India, music directors come and become gods. And then another one enters the business and the prevalent one leaves. And we can only blame the excess competition in the music industry for the pushing them aside. There are very few music directors who have consistently created music for our Hindi films and have not vanished from the limelight. Meanwhile, there are others who are doing 'other' things.

Read on as we take you through a list of music directors who once conquered Bollywood and left. Take a look.

1. Anand-Milind

They started their career in Ab Ayega Mazza in 1984. It was after Qayamat Se Qayamat  Tak that they became famous. They did a couple of films after that including Baaghi, Beta, Love and Anjaam, all of which became big. In the late 90s, they recorded a couple of songs for veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, but failed to leave the same impact. ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ is still fresh in our memory, but these two are nowhere to be seen.

2. Nadeem-Shravan

They came in the early 90s and were active till the early 2000s. The duo created the music for the original Aashiqui which went on to break all music records. After that, they did a couple of popular movies Like Saajan, Raja Hindustani, Dilwale, Pardes and Dhadkan. The duo also worked with various singers and have contributed significantly to the genre of romantic music, but again it’s been a while since we heard from them. In 2005, Nadeem-Shravan composed the music for Bewafaa.

3. Jatin-Lalit

Jatin Lalit

Jatin-Lalit gave us one of the most romantic songs of all time ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam’ from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. These two were regarded as the kings of romance in the 90s and their songs are remembered by people even today. From Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander to Fanna, Jatin-Lalit never disappointed us. In 2006, they ended their partnership and have been working independently ever since.

4. Anu Malik

Anu Malik made his music debut in the 70s, but was noticed only in the 90s. The 90s were predominantly his decade with hits such as Baazigar and Jaanam. He received a national award for Refugee in 2000. After that, Malik composed songs only on and off. He’s mostly known for his music in Main Hoon Na and the recent Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

5. Sandesh Shandaliya

Shandaliya composed songs for Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and gained popularity immediately. Sadly, he does not have too many films in his kitty, but he's known for Chameli and Socha Na Tha. Our favourite song of his is ‘Aaoge Jab Tum’ from Jab We Met. He has continued to work as a music director, but as they say, the craze is over.

6. Himesh Reshammiya

Himesh Reshammiya

Reshammiya was the guy who came and conquered like no one else. We might not be a fan of his music, but he managed to create his own space in B-town. Moreover, he makes a constant effort to make his presence felt in Bollywood, whether it's through singing or acting.  He first created music for Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya alongside Jatin-Lalit and Sajid-Wajid. In 2003, he directed music for Tere Naam and was appreciated by one and all. After that, began the 'Reshhammiya era' or 'the nasal voice period' of music. From singing for Salman Bhai to Emran Hashmi, the man was ruling B-town until people got bored. In recent times, we haven’t seen him sing, but he continues to compose for Hindi films. However, the ‘Reshammiya period’ is over.

7. Pritam Chakraborty

Pritam’s music career began with Fun2shh. However, he was first noticed for composing 'Halka Halka' in Chocolate and 'Dhoom Machale' for Dhoom. Pritam has the maximum number of blockbusters in his kitty. A couple of his songs have allegedly been plagiarized, but this man is doing just fine. We don’t see him dominating the music industry any more. But, he’s still very much active.

One cannot deny that pursuing music and keeping at it is difficult, especially in Bollywood. Previously, we've seen how some music directors have completely vanished from the scene. However, if we talk about the present, there is no particular duo overshadowing the others in Bollywood. We have Vishal-Shekhar, A R Rehman, Shankar –Ehsaan-Loy, Sachin Jigar, Sajid Wajid and a couple of others who are regularly performing. We’ll have to wait and watch to see who will rule B-town again.
