Bengaluru City Police have cracked the case of attempts to disfigure the statue of Sangolli Rayanna, the man who became an icon of resistance for his armed struggle against the British, near Kempegowda Bus Station here and arrested a Nepali national in connection with the case.

Police sources confirmed that the incident was not politically motivated. But the Nepali national tried to steal the bronze sword for monetary gains.

The Cottonpete police, who had filed a case, said on Saturday that unidentified person attempted to steal the sword from the bronze statue of the medieval chieftain on Friday night. They failed to detach the sword, but severely bent it downwards instead.
